MEDICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH

Katrina evacuees can apply for Medicaid health care coverage in Texas by visiting a Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) office. Applications for five months of coverage will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2006. To be eligible, applicants should bring proof of identification, meet established income limits, and be from an eligible county or parish. Call 2-1-1 to locate the nearest HHSC office.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

After evacuees have registered for assistance with FEMA, they can visit the DRC if they have questions about their application or need assistance from the social service providers co-located there. The Disaster Recovery Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 825 E. Rundberg Lane in North Austin, just east of I-35.
